Saving Mr. Banks

Wind’s in the east, mist’s coming in. Like something is brewing, about to begin. Can’t put my finger on what lies in store, but I feel what’s to happen, has all happened before.  -Mary Poppins Remember a moment from being a child when everything lay before you and the world was a magical place? Childhood innocence wrapped in sunlight and joyous laughter—where all you had to do was grow up and all your dreams you imagine now would be real tomorrow? Sort of bittersweet isn’t it? You know as well as I that with all those sunbeams come lessons. Lessons being a more positive way to say disappointments and mistakes.  And then you grow up.  You remember with a smile and you get on with the business of life.  But isn’t it wonderful…magical if you will, when you remember? Last night I saw Saving Mr. Banks. For those of you who don’t know it’s about the trials and tribulations Walt Disney faced while trying to work with P.L. Travers, the author of Mary Poppins.  Walt …

A Car Wash

My car was really dirty.  The kind of dirty when you can’t tell what color your car is because it is so grey with salt and grime and if you happen to rub up against your car your coat gets big white streaks on it–that kind of dirty.  I had the inspired idea while getting gas to get my car washed.  This gas station had one of those pay for the car wash at the pump and then enter a code before entering the car washing garage magic room. *There are two types of people.  The type that do not have ridiculous things happen to them all the time, and the type that do.* So I drove into the car washing garage magic room.  I drove slowly.  The green light up sign told me to enter.  The door closed behind me.  The door that allows me to exit to the front was already closed.  The arch with all the sprayers and brushes moved in place over my car.  And then nothing happened. Crickets. So …

It’s Thursday. Thank someone already….and here’s some shopping ideas.

Oh for crying out loud.  I missed Thankful Thursday last week.  Now it’s here again.  I’m not prepared.  The days are going so fast and there’s so much to do.  I want to stop and enjoy the moments. Gentle Reader, let’s stop for a moment and smell the poinsettias.  I love calling you Gentle Reader. I’ve got the Today Show on, which I love.  There’s a fire in the fireplace, which is good since it’s 21 degrees outside.  I’ve got coffee, which is AWESOME.  I’ve accomplished some of my morning chores and I’m somewhat organized as to what I need to do today, another plus.  Oh! And my house is clean–a gift from my Pop, thank you Pop.  This is huge. HUGE.  (We’ll omit the part about the dried cat puke, the fact that I forgot about Thursdays mean NO PARKING on my side of the street—curse you parking ticket woman in the orange body parka and matching hat with ear flaps who saw me running to my car and gave me a ticket ANYWAY, …

Fur Love

Today’s just a day.  My little cat has been having seizures from her diabetes.  We’ve had her since she was 8 weeks old and she is currently 15.  She’s doing better right now…  One of my dearest friends texted me just now that her beloved dog died last night.  Why does it always feel like these life, death and in between moments happen around the Holidays? In the absence of Joy there is Sadness.  You need one for the other.  Not really a consolation…at the moment. Here’s to all our best furry friends.  Love to you Frasier.

Home Sick

I’m home.  Sick. Being sick is the worst.  In theory it sounds good to be stuck on the couch or in bed doing nothing.  Until you are stuck on the couch or in bed.  Doing nothing.  And doing nothing is really not an option. I’ve had family with us for 3 weeks.  We went to New York City for part of that.  We hosted Thanksgiving at our house.  Decorated the house for Christmas–which feels like moving every time we do it.  Boxes, chaos, displaced stuff, piles, dust.  Our diabetic 15 year old cat got sick.  We just got back from Syracuse.  There was a two hour delay for school because of all the snow and ice.  I can’t find my toiletries.  I have piles of laundry.  My floors are covered in glitter, snow puddles, fur (both cat and dog), and various other unidentifiable things.  I need to Christmas shop.   I need to wrap presents.  I’m in charge of my 8 year old’s Holiday Party which is less than 2 weeks away.  I’m going to …
