I Heart Printstagram

I like squares.  If you take a picture on your phone and have access to apps—Instagram is a great one.  You can tweak your pictures in one click into little works of perfectly square shaped photo”art”. Printstagram is a social print studio, meaning…all those pictures on Instagram that are just floating out there in digital world?  Well Printstagram will link to Instagram and you can PRINT any pictures you want.  I’m not getting paid to love them.  I just do.  Click here to go directly to their site (or click http://www.Socialprintstudio.com or http://www.printstagr.am).  They can probably explain it better, after all, it’s their site.  (Want to do the same thing with Facebook photos?   Blueprints.  http://getblue.co  Same company, just different division.) They can print little squares, big squares, medium squares, even RECTANGLES with square pictures inside.  It’s very cool.  I’ve used them twice.  Once for a bajillion Christmas gifts.  I ordered little books with teeny square pictures inside and everyone loved them.  This time around I just received photo booth style prints.  They are simply…super cute.   …

Lamp Love

Did you read my post about Chandelier Love?  This is similar but different.  The difference will be…brace yourself…it will NOT be about chandeliers but about LAMPS. I am now going to go to TJ Maxx to show you some bright options.     I have returned. These lamps have passed my test.  You can put these next to your couch in pairs.  Next to your bed in pairs.  You can use them individually on side tables or on any horizontal surface that is about waist high, more or less. I used the same mug in each picture so you could better relate the size of the lamps. Table Lamps.   This skinny style (above) works best on bedside tables that tend to be crowded–the narrowness takes up less room but because it is tall it still makes a statement. This is important.  I went to Walmart.  90% of the lamps I saw there you cannot buy.  You know I love a bargain, but a bargain is not a bargain if you have to replace it …

How to Shop for Rugs. An Unbiased Document.

Oh they think they are so funny. I don’t even know why I bother with rugs and carpet.  They are like magnets for animals and kids to pee, puke, and make messes on.  Oh the stories I have.   I should tell you about the time my husband spilled red Gatorade on our cream carpet…or the time he was shaking a protein shake made up of milk, chocolate and something that translated into slime when it hits carpeting–and the lid wasn’t on all the way and do I really need to go on?  Or the time my potty training son used the carpet on the stairs as his toilet paper and slowly slid down them on his backside.  And then there was Norovirus 2010.  No sir, we don’t believe in toilets or buckets in our house–we just use carpet.  Seriously folks, I’ve got a 100 of them, but that’s not what this post is about. It’s about those brave brave people who want to put carpet, or specifically, area rugs in their homes.  Why, …

Emotional Toolbox Prep…Why I Decided to Stop Shoving Everything Into My Refrigerator.

I’m too embarrassed to show you a before picture of my refrigerator and really, do you care to see it?  This post is going to start serious and end with, well, about why I decided to stop shoving everything into my refrigerator. I think I unconsciously live in fear of something happening and I won’t be prepared.  And when I say something happening, I mean, anything that creates chaos/confusion/emotional distress.  Example, my child gets the stomach flu and I am out of laundry soap.  So I tend to stock up on laundry soap.  But there are also the more intense situations.  Any military wife can figure out what I’m talking about.  We get 72 hours notice in an emergency to prepare for sudden deployments and that is IF you are lucky.  And then when they are deployed there is all the repressed worrying.  Of course you are now a “single” mom so there is no back-up.  The day your husband leaves for 6 months is the day your child gets the stomach flu and you …

Decorating Trends 2014. What’s In…What’s Out.

My Pop loves newspapers.  He sends me articles from all over on decorating.  I got a laugh over a few recently as they are proclaiming what’s in and what’s out. Ikat prints are OUT.  My pillows are out.  Ikat is no good.  And I quote Designer Sheldon Harte:  “You know it’s over when it’s showing up on paper plates in CVS.” My Mom’s macrame she made in the 70’s? 60’s? is IN.  I bet she is beaming as she reads this.   Woodland creatures are OUT.  Oh thank God.  I hated the damn owls.  No more blinky owls, foxes or timid deer. Of course what if it is made out of macrame?  Does it become IN again?  I really hope not.   All white kitchens are OUT. Kitchen by South Hamilton Interior Designers & Decorators SLC Interiors I do NOT agree.  This is just lovely. Dark blue and charcoal is In. Living Room by Berkeley Interior Designers & Decorators Urban Orchard Interiors Faux painted walls are OUT. Wallpaper is IN.  Remember my post about Why …

My House. Part 3

So we are in Winter Storm Nika, not to be confused with Maximus.  Today this was as far as I made it outside.  Pretty everywhere I looked.  Kids were going door to door offering to clean cars of snow and ice for donations.  Last I looked there were 7 kids working on my car.  And one dog. Inside is where I am content right now.  You saw Part 1 and Part 2 of inside–here’s the continuation… Clearly this is not today.  It was taken in September, and it made me happy when I saw it.  So I’ll end my house tour on a sunny note.  As I mentioned, in previous posts, this house is for sale and we’ll be moving to DC in June.  Happiness to the new owner who gets to live here:)

My House. Part 2

Hi! It’s Part 2.  It’s the same as Part 1 but different…same home, more snow, different rooms.  Still for sale.  I feel like I should put out a disclaimer.  I know it looks really good but I look at these pictures and I think–well that needs this, or that, or this is too small, and that is too big, and this is just looking old, and that looks too bare, and this looks too busy.  But hey, it’s not Architectural Digest, it’s my house…And if you read my About Me page I would be a walking contradiction if I let “this and that” stop me…to quote myself,  “Don’t wait until your kids are grown and out of the house or until you are in your “permanent” home to decorate.  Live in the moment and enjoy your home now—and have fun with it!” I’ve been blessed to live in this great house.  It’s for sale.  Want to buy it?  Tip your hat in my direction if you are interested:)  Part 3 is coming next.  (It’s here! …
