My House. Part 1

I live in an awesome house. We were very settled in Virginia when we found out we were moving to Pennsylvania.  Now we are very settled in Pennsylvania (it’s been a whole 6 months) and we are moving to DC in June.  This house is going up for sale in a few weeks.  Want to see inside?         This is my favorite piece of art.  It’s by Janice Miles from Saugatuck, Michigan. The companion.  Love the deep midnight blue sky.   It’s a blizzard here.  Winter Storm Maximus.  Love the names they come up with.  Whole family home so I’m off to walk in the snow.  More pictures tomorrow… Jen My House Part 2 My House Part 3

Color of the Year, Radiant Orchid. Or…Decorating with Purple.

Kitchen by Brooklyn Photographers Rikki Snyder If you want to keep up with what is trending in 2014–the “it” color is RADIANT ORCHID–pinkish-purple-fuchsia.  Pantone, a global authority on color, picks a color each year, and this color will appear everywhere in home decor, fashion, and more.  Here’s some inspiration. Cozy Rooms

Rustic Bathroom by Jackson Design-Build Firms Big-D Signature   All my Christmas decorations have been put away but my mantles, shelves, and tables are bare.  Why is it every year I have zero recollection as to how it all looked before the Christmas explosion?  I cannot remember what went where.  I love Christmas because everyone is excited, happy and kind–until the week or so before when suddenly everyone becomes tired, grumpy and stressed–and then sick.  I really don’t love Christmas so much when it’s just over.  As in O-V-E-R and it’s January and you are staring at a wilting Christmas tree with ornaments drooping low low low, and all the stuff you received as gifts are lying around homeless, and your refrigerator is FULL of food that is leftover and old, and your house looks like you gave a New Year’s Eve party to 100 angry people–only you didn’t, and well you are just spent-in both senses of the word. So, maybe I’m really glad it’s over.  I’m ready for something new.  Oh wait, I’m …

Spoooooky House in Boiling Springs, PA

Happy Spoooooky Halloween Everyone!  Isn’t this exciting?! My parents were visiting us a few weeks ago and we took them to the City of Boiling Springs.  It’s a cute little town on a seven-acre lake that is fed from 30 natural springs.  The water bubbles like it is “boiling” thus the name.  It has an amazing history but that is not what this post is about.  It is about this house. On the east shore, remaining from the pre-revolutionary iron forge complex, are the original forge and the iron master’s mansion with the remnants of its terraced gardens. This 1795 Georgian structure is the most outstanding example of architecture in the Boiling Springs Historic District and of major historical significance as the home of the Ege family. The mansion is presently in a deteriorating condition and is uninhabited. (from Wikipedia) Or is it? I did a little exploring.  It was becoming stormy and dark.  I creeped up to the front door and then…  Here with my own eyes is what I saw.  Sort of.  Ok, …
