I Heart Printstagram

I like squares.  If you take a picture on your phone and have access to apps—Instagram is a great one.  You can tweak your pictures in one click into little works of perfectly square shaped photo”art”. Printstagram is a social print studio, meaning…all those pictures on Instagram that are just floating out there in digital world?  Well Printstagram will link to Instagram and you can PRINT any pictures you want.  I’m not getting paid to love them.  I just do.  Click here to go directly to their site (or click http://www.Socialprintstudio.com or http://www.printstagr.am).  They can probably explain it better, after all, it’s their site.  (Want to do the same thing with Facebook photos?   Blueprints.  http://getblue.co  Same company, just different division.) They can print little squares, big squares, medium squares, even RECTANGLES with square pictures inside.  It’s very cool.  I’ve used them twice.  Once for a bajillion Christmas gifts.  I ordered little books with teeny square pictures inside and everyone loved them.  This time around I just received photo booth style prints.  They are simply…super cute.   …

Gather and Gold

Gather and Gold, Gather and Gold, Gather and Gold, Ev’ryone wishes for Gather and Gold.  It’s actually : Silver and gold Silver and gold Silver and gold Ev’ryone wishes For silver and gold…Burl Ives from Rudolph.  But whatever, this works better for my post.  It’s about Gathering and Gold.  Didn’t see that coming did you?   You know what that is?  Other than AWESOME?  It’s a piece a fabric cut from a bolt at the good ole’ fabric store.  YOU can do that.  LOVE IT! Ok, ready for this one?  It seriously hurts my heart. It’s called “Go to Goodwill and buy a hideous painting and spray paint the frame gold and paint the board inside the painting with chalk board paint.”  Or go to TJMaxx and buy a framed chalkboard and spray paint the frame gold… OR if you are crafty and you know it then take a half price coupon to Michaels Craft Store, buy an open frame (they have a whole aisle of them), buy a cheap piece of thin board from Home …

Bargaining 101 and Peeking: A Follow-Up To Awesome

Like the cabinet?  I found it at a junk/antique store in North Carolina.  Did you know most places will give you 10% off just for asking?  And did you know if you pay cash you can usually get 15-20% off the price?  And did you know if the piece has been there for, like, ever (Or looks like it has been there forever) you can get a lot more off?  This cabinet was shoved in a corner barricaded by a bunch of other stuff.  I used that to my advantage.  “Hey Mr. Owner I’ll give you $60 cash for this piece because you have had it forever, no one can see it, and you need to clear some inventory.”  He didn’t like it but he knew I was right.  He had it listed for $160.  I got it for $60.  Don’t be afraid to ask and remember cash is powerful.  (I bought this and a 5 foot locker while 8 hours from home–with a car that was packed…Thank you Jack and Jan for foregoing luggage …

You Gotta Have Art

If you are from Detroit and you are a product of the 70’s and 80’s then you know this song.  It’s. Classic. It’s a commercial for the Detroit Institute of Arts.  They’ve got art, but do you? I don’t mean Museum Quality Collector ART.  I just mean some scraps of paper mounted on your wall that speak to you.  Something that lifts your soul.  Something that reminds you of a faraway place or time.  Or maybe it doesn’t remind you of a darn thing and that’s why you like it.  But you gotta like it.  And you gotta have art. Art is what separates our homes from furniture show rooms.  Art is what makes a home look collected over time.  Art is what gives our rooms personality. Remember Ode to a Green Purse?  Or Making Art Out of Objects You Love?  (I know, who can forget those oldie but goodies.)  Art can be ANYTHING as long as YOU like it and it makes YOU feel good to look at it. So are your walls still …

Public Service Announcement: Visual Clutter

I’m going to be brief (or I’m going to try.) Kids bring a lot of clutter to a house.  We’ll define clutter  as a confusing or disorderly state.  Kids make houses disorderly.  It is their job.  This is directed at you, the parent of the “culprits”.  It is a no win exhausting battle between “picked up for 5 minutes” and “complete and utter chaos”.  I am Type A.  I can take 2 days of things being disorderly and then I start to freak out a little.  I have systems.  I have mantras…like things must go together is my favorite.  I have help.  (I also have anti-help).  I have training, if you will, to deal with these scenarios.  AND I still fight the forces of good and evil. I help a lot of people with their houses.  If you are battling the clutter fight and want a calm uncluttered home…if you do not want your home to continue to look like the two pictures above then you must listen to me. You will have …

5 Minute Spring Decorating

I am in jail today.  Seven year old has stomach flu.  I’ll leave it at that.  It is a beautiful Spring day here in Virginia.  If you live in a place that is still receiving snow–bookmark me and come back to this one later:)  For my party people who have sunshine and trees starting to bud…this one’s for you.  (Get it?) So as I am sequestered I thought this would be a good time to see if I could bring Spring into my home in 5 minutes or less.  Because that is really all I had.  (I am able to write this post as 7 year old is entranced with TV and I am balancing a bucket and a laptop on my lap…pretty risqué if I do say so myself…what if he or I confuse the laptop for the bucket??  That could be an interesting phone call to Apple…or my husband). Here is what you need: 5 minutes. A vase (mine is from Walmart and cost $2.50). Heavy duty scissors, snips, branch cutter, or regular …
